Cold weather and insecure vehicles
« on: December 04, 2010, 09:37:28 pm »
Good evening,

With the recent harsh cold snap, a few matters have come to our attention that I would like to make you aware of.

Whilst we understand that de icing and scraping a car first thing in the morning is no fun whatsoever, please can we ask that residents do not leave their engines running whilst their cars heat up, and when they are not even near their cars.

Sadly this time of year we see a rise in offences where cars are stolen off the driveways, when careless owners leave them running.  It is worth reminding you, that although Police will do everything we can to find those responsible, your insurance company will rarely pay out for a vehicle that has been left with the keys in the ignition, so you will be out of pocket twice.

Also, please make sure that you leave all your windows and doors secure when you are out of your address, with Christmas coming up, houses have a large amount of high value goods and presents in them, and criminals know this too.  Dont let them spoil Christmas for you by leaving doors and windows unlocked.

I wish you and your families a very happy and safe Christmas and a prosperous New Year

Best wishes
