There are a still some places left to take part in the inaugural Rotary car treasure hunt.  You will need to request and send in your completed entry form to secure your place

Date, time and starting location are as on the flyer (3 July 11:00 from Old Owens)

The treasure hunt is aimed at the whole family with a series of clues in the form of rhymes to find pieces of information about various places and locations within this area.  Some are quite obvious and others a bit more challenging.  There are over 50 clues to solve and we estimate this will take about 2 hours to complete over a distance of about 32 miles.

There will be a pay-as-you-go BBQ afterwards back at Old Owens.

You are welcome.  Weather looks promising as well, Murray is progressing at Wimbledon so should be an excellent day all round!!

By the way there are still some places left so if anyone else if thinking about taking part,  don't leave it too late to let us know

Our heart felt thanks to everyone who turned out yesterday to make the Car Treasure Hunt such a drive away success.  The weather was fabulous and, although Murray wasn't in the final at Wimbledon, all cars were back in time to see the match (actually it was the people who has been in the cars who watched the tennis, the cars stayed outside!).

At the end of what has been a rather stop-start journey to get this event on the road,  we final mananged to pull away from the lights.   Rather unlike red buses, not everyone turned up at the same time, in fact there was only one non-starter lining up on the metaphorical start line (as of course this wasn't a race).  The flag dropped (actually the people in the first car were the first to finish their coffee) and the first family safely left the car park, the starter chatted with the team in the next car and nothing happened for 10 mins.  The next family slipped away before the kids drank too much squash at the start of their journey and the starter carried on talking with the people in a well turned out VW Bug convertible who has hoped to be the second car away - no such luck!   By 11:40 everyone had started on their journey with only Ryhme and Reason to guide them safely back.

Teams were expected to take about 2 hours to complete the 36 miles (or so) and bang on the dot the first team arrived back.  Results were extremely good with every team scoring more than 40 out of a maximum 52 points.  The overall winners had a fantastic 47 points, just pipping those in second place by only 1 point!

Even though the route didn't stray more than a few miles as the crow flys from BP, just about everyone 'discovered' places they didn't know existed.  Everyone had a fantastic time and asked us to run another car treasure hunt.  We will see ...........

Thanks to Mike & the team from us too! Despite regular shouts from our 4 year old ranging from 'are we there yet?' & 'will we find actual treasure?' to, our favourite, 'where are the Easter eggs?' a good time was had by all. As you say, we discovered new places that have been on our doorstep all this time & of course, it was made all the better by taking the prize at the end! There may have only been a point in it Big Red Daddy, but a miss is as good as a mile!  :D

Plus the kids say thank you for the squash, biscuits & Cadburys Heroes...

Helen
