Brookmans Park police surgery dates
« on: June 07, 2010, 01:44:11 pm »
I held another Police Surgery at the United Reform Church this morning, 7th June, and only 1 gentleman attended, and thank you to him.  I feel it may be of some use if I recap as to what the surgeries are there for.

The idea behind the Police Surgeries is for the residents to have their say on what they feel are the local issues affecting them.  This way we can collate the information and begin to see if there are problems  we were not aware of or if there are issues residents would like us to focus on. These meetings are vital to us setting the Policing Priorities, the problems most resdients feel require our attention. Without your input, it is up to us to set your priorities and focus on the things we feel are the problems.

We are here to listen to you and for you to tell us what you would like us to focus on to improve your lives in the village.  We are waiting to be guided by you, the residents.  It is your chance to have your say in your village and yet these surgeries are very poorly attended.

In the begining the surgeries were set for mornings only and there were complaints from people who work and were unable to attend, and rightly so.  To rectify this I have alternated the monthly surgeries to one in the evening and the following month one in the morning to accommodate those residents. The dates and times can be found on this website.

PC Nick ROLL and I look forward to meeting you at future meetings, even if you just want to meet us and say hello.

Firstly, it’s great to see a thread on local issues rather than yet another national one.

The problem may be that you’re not conspicuous there and people probably forget it’s on, no matter how much you publicise it.

I think you should maybe look to gatecrash piggyback other peoples meeting. Schools have parent evenings, why not try setting up a table there. Does the local councillor hold surgeries, if so make it a joint surgery, often the issues raised will be pertinent to you both. How about the church or other community groups, they must have events/meetings you can piggyback. The added bonus of course is you don’t have to provide the public liability insurance as it’s not your meeting.

Also why not just set up a street surgery outside the Coop and engage people as they wander by. Imagine how many you’d get from 3 to 7pm. Pick a road and walk down it knocking on all the doors. Introduce yourselves and ask how you can make local life better. It won’t take as long as you think, Jehovah witnesses do it all the time – I’m guessing you’ll be slightly better received.

Why not set up a little safer neighbourhood  drop in post box in the post office, coop or newsagent with blank postcards next to it so the busy people can write down what concerns them and pop it in the box, you could collect them weekly.

Just a few ideas.

In other parts of the Borough the Police (and Fire service) do Community involvement days - they go round knocking on people's doors introduce themselves and listen to what people say.

As said in the previous post the surgeries need to flagged up on the Brookmans site a week or so before you pitch up in the URC.

Finally the police do not appear to be doing anything to enforce speeding traffic through the village.   I wrote to our local PC via their website (www.herts.police.uk) nearly two weeks ago to ask what they were doing about speeding vehicles, and have still not received a reply.

Nightlondon makes some good points. I am guessing these surgeries are poorly attended due to work comittments

if people are engaged in the street or door to door I think the police will get much better responses.

I heard a guy on Radio 4 a few years ago discussing how to grab lifes opportunites.

His mantra (very cheesy but true)

"if the boat is not docking at the harbour you have to row out to it"

i would love to have a chin wag with the local bobby/comm support but never seem to have the time.

if they grab me on the way into the co op then happy to have a chat.

I guess its not that were not bothered about what the police do its just its not a priority in busy lives in a safe area.

However they do a very hard job and im sure we are all very grateful for that.

Indeed I see them driving about all the time and glad to see them about.

While on subject can I remind some residents that just because there are no lines on the road this does not mean you can pretend you are in france.

I had an interesting near encounter with an BMW 4x4 on the moffatts lane bend last night. unreal!!

Some good points have been raised and I shall discuss them with Nick, (PC ROLL). The idea of a box in the post office or local shop is something we shall consider if it will make it easier for residents.  Of course residents can always contact us via telephone or email.  Our contact details are:

PC 2192 Nick ROLL
nicholas(dot)roll(at)herts(dot)pnn(dot)police(dot)uk
01707 806947

PCSO 6688 Louise LUXFORD
louise(dot)luxford(at)herts(dot)pnn(dot)police(dot)uk
01707 806944

Maybe life gets in the way and we are all too busy, sometimes there are not enough hours in a day. After a long day who wants to stop and talk to the Police when all you want to do is grab something to eat from the local shop and go home? What is true is Nick and I do have the best interests of Brookmans Park at heart, and we will do whatever we can to maintain the village as a safe and pleasant place to live.

Brookmans Park police surgery dates

Please do not forget that the next Police Surgery is on Monday 4th October, 10am - 12pm.  Your new permanent Police Officer, PC Nick Roll, will be at the United Reform Church to hear your opinions and for you to air your views.

These surgeries are an opportunity for you to meet your local officers and to tell them what you think should be the priorities we focus on in the village. It is also an opportunity for you to discuss any issues you feel we should be made aware of. It is not a meeting whereby the Police take charge, it is a meeting for the residents and it is the residents who dictate the topics.

Traditionally nobody turns up to these meetings and without your input, how can we help? Even if you have no issues, just pop by and say hello!

The mobile police station will be in the village Monday 25th October from 12pm.

Would it be possible for the Welham Green officers to also put the dates & times of surgeries on this web site. To be honest I wouldn't have a clue where to find out when & where they are, but I do believe they are held.

Hi Louise,

Could you add all the dates to the site's calendar please?  That way they will pop up as they approach and on the day of the surgery.  Just click the 'Link To Calendar' tab and copy over the details.

Thanks

Or possibly increase attendance by expanding into more traditional surgical areas? I would imagine that minor cosmetic offerings would fit in well in Brookmans Park - Botox for example...

I have changed the title of this thread (and have done the same with the Welham Green police surgeries thread) to try to avoid confusion.

Hi Louise,

I have linked all the dates you posted to the calendar so that they show up as the day approaches and on the day. I have also made clear that they are Brookmans Park surgeries (as opposed to Welham Green surgeries) and (I have presumed) they are at the URC as usual. Please advise if the venue has been changed and I will edit the entry.

Thanks
