Mimms family

My late grandfather's surname was Mimms, and I believe his ancestors were from North Mymms. Could anyone kindly provide any information about the surname Mymms, or the word "Mimmine"? Thank you very much.

Hi Michael, welcome to the forum. There are many references to the name Mymms, or Mimmine, on the site.

Perhaps the best piece to start with is the article written by Bill Killick, which sets out the history of the name.

Click here to read Bill's article.

There is another piece about Mimmine and the manor of North Mymms, taken from "The Victoria History of Hertfordshire" edited by W. Page - 1908.

Click here to read the first of those two chapters from that book.

Dorothy Colville's book 'North Mymms Parish and People' starts with mention of Mimmine. This book is 30 chapters long and is published in full, including all the images from the original book.

Click here for chapter one North Mymms - The Parish by Dorothy Colville

You might then want to go through the site's history index, which has 16 complete books about the history of North Mymms, and more than 50 history features written by local people.

If you have been carrying out any research yourself, and have any information not carried on the site, it would be great to read it and include it in the history features section.

Click here to mail to the site.

Good luck
