Rotary Club May Day celebration
« on: July 18, 2008, 12:55:41 pm »
At a meeting of local shopkeepers, parish council representatives and Brookmans Park Rotary Club members, ideas were discussed to stage a May Day event in 2009 on the Saturday of the May Day bank holiday weekend. Activities such as Maypole Dancing, children’s treasure trail, Morris dancing, craft stalls and other traditional fair activities were suggested. Those attending the meeting were very positive about this event and members of the Rotary Club agreed to move things forward.

 May Day 2009.

Traditional May Day, great idea, so it's a yes yes and yes and do not be diverted by the  health & safety gestapo.

 Good Luck.

Saturday's sun-soaked May Day Celebration on Bradmore Green was a great success. The May Day mayhem and madness of Morris Men, Punch & Judy, ever popular Wet Sponge Throwing in the Stocks and lots more combined with a gloriously sunny day resulted in a terrific turnout. The children from Little Heath School added a great family aspect to the event. However, our energetic, volunteer Rotarians are ever keen to build on the event and would be delighted to receive observations and ideas from BP residents.

Please send your suggestions to: enquiries[at]brookmansparkrotary[dot]org[dot]uk

If you missed the opportunity of donating don’t forget the Rotary Just Giving site – http://www.justgiving.com/brookmansparkrotary   All contributions are very gratefully received to go towards the nominated charities plus the great free entertainment of Punch & Judy, Morris Men etc.  at next years May Day.

At yesterday evening's Rotary Meeting (20:00 every Tuesday at Old Owens) the decision was made to cancel this years May Day Celebration because of the recent heavy rain and the forecast of more to come.

Plans are being made to hold a similar event later in the year and details will be posted.

Yes a lovely afternoon, despite the challenging weather.

Well done to the Maypole Dancers from both Brookmans Park and Little Heath schools.

Thank you Rotary
