Quite a few delays etc this morning - heard on local radio that someone had been hit by a train in the Hatfielld area.  Some diversions as well

A few months ago I saw some electricians fixing lights along the bridge to the platforms.  So far I've never seen these lights working (granted I don't often travel in the dark) but surely now it's getting dark much earlier shouldn't these lights be working?

It would have made sense to also put (working) lights on the bridge by the road.

Angel, I asked James Gillett the station manager about the lights and he just responded

Quote
We had electrical contractors there end of last week looking at the lights on the footbridge.  They should now be working.

Will wait and see if they are on this week I guess...

Walking past the station a couple of hours ago, some trains did appear to be running, but the ticket machine was out of order yet again.

Not looking great on the trains this afternoon (see screen grab from our front page at 14:10 02/01/18). Not sure whether this has anything to do with it.

I see ALL of the trains are delayed - can anyone tell me if they are running at all please?  Or is it better to find another way?

Seems the next train out of BP or WG heading south is in an hour and 15 mins.

I think GN are being a little economical with the truth here. There is engineering work this weekend and they are running a revised timetable, but there doesn't seem to be any link between the two. If you have a look at the network rail engineering page:

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/currentAndFuture.aspx?TravelDate=26%2F05%2F2018&TOC=

There is no mention of anything which would cause changes to the Moorgate services. I suspect after the nightmare this week has been they are just using it as an excuse to run a much simpler timetable which is less likely to wrong.. (all trains from our neck of the woods appear to be going to Moorgate/Kings Cross with nothing through the tunnels down to the South Coast!)

The poor service has made the national tv news today. Looks like Grant Shapps is getting as p***ed off as the rest of us!

The incredibly patchy service we've been experiencing since the timetable changes actually worked in my favour last night as I caught the late running previous train just as I walked onto the platform.

But I'm amazed that we're still experiencing disruption, surely things should have settled down now. However maybe the real reason is that there simply aren't the resources to run everything, whether that be trains or drivers or track capacity.

Last night (Saturday) there were no late trains to London at all. I dropped a friend off at the station to find the 22.35 cancelled. The board said the 23.35 was also cancelled but the 23.05 was on time. My friend returned to the station later to find that the 23.05 had just been cancelled as well. Consequently he had to take a taxi back to London - cost 65. Furthermore, he told me that there was a group of young girls at the station who were in a state of panic as they had also, presumably relied on the 23.05 running. The disgraceful state of the trains is not only costing us money it's putting the safety of youngsters at risk. The papers also tell us that the rail companies would rather incur a fine than incur the cost of training an adequate number of drivers. You have to question just what kind of contractual arrangement between the government and the rail company would allow this to happen - clearly a very badly drawn up contract. The state of the trains has been awful for two years now, and I recall that our MP wrote to Govia Thameslink back in September 2016, but this appears to have had little effect. The next time I see Grayling burbling on the telly, I might throw something at it.

Nobby shouldn't hold out too much hope! Apparently, in the next few weeks, the controllers for our service, i.e. GN locals is due to move from Kings Cross to co-locate with the new Thameslink control centre at Three Bridges. After which, disentangling the mess may become akin to leaving the EU!

I looked up yesterday's (Saturday) actual arrivals at BPK:

This article makes interesting reading:

https://www.londonreconnections.com/2018/the-timetable-change-accepting-the-blame/

Effectively, Govia have agreed a maximum fine level of 10 million through until September, which they have paid in advance, so they have absolutely no incentive to fix this mess until then at the earliest!
