Last night the 20:14 Moorgate train never turned up, nor did the following 20:44

Apparently never left WGC despite the signs claiming they were on time, then progressively later before disappearing off the board. If they just said the trains are cancelled then at least I can make alternative arrangements rather than waiting for a train that they themselves know isn't going to arrive.

Not sure if this helps or has been mentioned already but it's very easy to claim compensation for delays, my girlfriend got a cheque last week, only takes 2 mins. I can get details if you like?

Yes, I posted a link on 11 September (see below).  Ok but you don't get full amount back I think and still delayed.

For anyone who is delayed by more than 30 minutes, don't forget to claim 'delay repay'

Unfortunately, it is no longer advisable to rely on public transport. It really is a pathetic service.

The 7.42 was cancelled again this morning. The train disinformation display said it was delayed until 7.41 which meant that loads of people travelled to the station expecting it to turn up, only to find they could have spent an extra 15 minutes in bed - actually 20 minutes as the 7.57 was late. Still no word from our MP on the matter; it was his government that awarded the franchise to this appalling company.

As a user of the line most weekdays I agree the service is beyond appalling. I have been on their case with this ultimatum issued recently:
http://www.shapps.com/2016/09/shapps-issues-ultimatum-to-train-bosses-after-continual-poor-service

This has in turn elicited a very lengthy response. More characters than the forum allows to post, so I'll put up on my website and come back to link it shortly.

Grant.

And here is the full response. My next step is a further meeting with Great Northern where I'll be challenging them on some of the contents of this response:

Grant

As someone who only uses the train only once or twice a week I perhaps am less inconvenienced than daily commuters, however I have seen a reliable service deteriorate into a shambles with serious doubt as to whether I can even get to my destination - usually only Potters Bar - which in daylight is walkable if I know the train isn't going to arrive

What I want to know is what the financial penalties are - presumably Great Northern had to sign up to some sort of service level agreement - and because of their failure to recruit sufficient drivers to save them money, they now cannot fulfil their obligations.

To cap it all there are regular tannoy announcements at BP station informing us that there is a consultation in progress about actually reducing the number of services from BP :-(

I hate to say it but maybe Labour have the right idea about bringing the railways back into public ownership.

I would encourage you to take a very robust line with Great Northern

Great Northern and Southern are great examples, unfortunately, of how the franchise system isn't working, at least for it's customers.

I think you are right, sasquartch, public ownership of our railways could be the answer.

Our front page local trains updates are not working at the moment. The site supplying the data is currently offline. In the meantime you can always check on the Great Northern site.

It looks like the site suppling our front page local trains updates is down at the moment (as of 8am 5 Oct). You can always check on the Great Northern site for the latest departures. http://www.thameslinkrailway.com/your-journey/live-travel-info/BPK/departures/

Grant Shapps was knocking on doors in Welham Green this morning.  When I was asked if there was anything to which I should like him to give his attention, I chose the shocking record of our train company.  I hope he's working hard on it for us.

Train timetable consultation - proposed downgrade of service
« Reply #714 on: October 17, 2016, 08:32:26 pm »
Calling all train commuters who use Brookmans Park and Welham Green train stations.

Great Northern are consulting on a new train timetable from 2018 headed "GTR 2018 Timetable Consultation".  The consultation is highly misleading because it talks about improvements to services, but on the very last page (page 71) in a footnote, it makes clear that whilst all stations on the WGC to Moorgate line will get 4 trains per hour during peak and off peak services, there is an exception from BP and Welham Green which will only get 2 trains per hour, down from 3 at the moment.

This seems completely unacceptable, particularly if we consider the proposed housing developments for the area and smacks of disjointed planning for new housing and transport services.  Is anyone else concerned about this downgrade in service?

Hi ML, there is a thread about this already:  http://www.brookmans.com/forum/index.php/topic,5435.0.html
