Catalina Field, 4 Hawkshead Lane, North Mymms.
« on: October 29, 2007, 12:37:08 pm »
I write on behalf of the Catalina Society, Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire.

I understand that Catalina Field was built by an ex-WW2 Catalina pilot in 1947 as a family home.
Further, I believe that the house recently changed ownership upon the decease of the Catalina pilot.

The Catalina Society are very keen to include this piece of local history in their archives and would enquire if anyone can recall the name of the original owner.

The society has massive research facilities at its fingertips for military records but very little capability on the civilian side e.g. voters rolls from earlier years.

Any information received will be treated with the greatest respect and discretion.

Sincerely

Eric Barry Stead

Hello "Mallow",
Thank you for your comms of 30 October regarding the late Captain X of Catalina Field.
I wondered if you had managed to discover the old boy's name?
With best regards,
ERic Barry Stead

Hi Eric,

The neighbour I want to speak to has been away for a while but is now back so I will ask her.  She knew his second wife very well so may well be able to get some other interesting information from her.

Regards.

Hi Eric,

The gentleman's name was Foster.  Haven't seen the neighbour who will know more yet, so will find out a christian name later this week.  Thought you might like this to be going on with.

Regards.

My husband spoke to the neighbour who knew is wife.  The man's name was Eric Foster, however, she does not seem to think he had any connetion with Catalinas other than a fascination.  I have had a quick search of the internet and can't find anything.  Maybe we have been mislead by an urban myth?

Regards.

Hi Eric,

I think his name was Cuthbert. My dad is currently working with a family member and found out that he was brought up in the area and that his father built Catalina Field. My dad has told him of this post on this site so he may contact you yet with some more information.

Best regards
CC

Dear Correspondents

Thank you for the information regarding the chap who had built Caralina Field after WW2.
Any further information will be most gratefully received.
Perhaps I may be able to further research Eric Foster - I will post my findings.

Progress so far:

From nothing but a rumour about a house called "Catalina Field" we have photographs of the house name plate and the drive way, a google earth arial image and the name of the previous owner, John Foster. That is immense progress.

Wishing you all a and jolly Christmas and a peaceful and happy New Year.

BaZo Stead
aka Eric Barry Stead

Thank you all

Dear CC,

Thank you for the information regarding 'Cuthbert.' You said that your Dad may post a  reply as he knew someone who had more information. Perhaps he may respond over the Christmas holiday. Any infirmation will be most gratefully received.

Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year 2008.
