About this site

Background

The Brookmans Park Newsletter was set up in 1997. The aim was threefold. To create a rich repository of local information, to offer a local news service, and to build a local community discussion forum.

The site is non profit-making and is run by volunteers who give their time for no reward other than the enjoyment of producing a vehicle for the delivery of content created by the community for the community.

The Brookmans Park Newsletter is politically independent and has no links with any political party. We do not collect user details for political or commericial gain, and we do not earn revenue from page impressions.

Who pays?

The webspace to accommodate the site is provided free of charge by The Positive Internet Company. We approached 25 companies asking for free space when we launched. Postive was the only company to respond positively saying they would be happy to host the Brookmans Park Newsletter because it was a "positive community venture". We would like to thank Positive for their continuing support.

All the remaining technical and upkeep costs are paid for out of the pockets of the volunteers. This site does not seek donations and does not attempt to raise money in any way.

Content

The content is submitted in three ways: Articles and books offered for publication by local people interested in building a resource of local information (see history index), contributions to the interactive forum and news stories either submitted by local residents or written to highlight issues being discussed in the forum.

Articles and books

All the books, features and other information reproduced on this site have been added after obtaining full agreement from the authors on the understanding that the material is not published elsewhere without their consent.

Downloading

You are free to download the content for your own personal non-commercial use, but you are not permitted to copy, adapt or change this content in any way for any other website or any other form of publication without obtaining permission.

Forum contributions

All those who register for the forum agree to certain conditions. The views expressed in the forum are the views of the contributors to the forum and are not necessarily the views of the Brookmans Park Newsletter.

News items, produced from the content created by the community in the forum are designed to reflect the strength of community feeling about local issues.

The team

The site was set up by two local residents, David Brewer (who looks after the content side), and James Bentall, (who looks after the technical side). A dozen volunteer moderators help manage the site's forum and act as an editorial sounding board when issues arise.
