About this site
Background
The Brookmans Park Newsletter was set up in 1997. The aim was threefold: to create a rich repository of local information, to offer a local news service, and to build a local community discussion forum. The site is non profit-making and is run by volunteers who give their time for no reward other than the enjoyment of producing a vehicle for the delivery of content created by the community for the community. The Brookmans Park Newsletter is politically independent and has no links with any political party. We do not collect user details for political or commercial gain. FinancesThe webspace to accommodate the site is provided free of charge by The Positive Internet Company. We approached 25 companies asking for free space when we launched in 1997. Postive was the only company to respond positively saying they would be happy to host the Brookmans Park Newsletter because it was a "positive community venture". We would like to thank Positive for their continuing support. All the remaining technical and upkeep costs are paid for out of the pockets of the volunteers (although ICT prize money won by North Mymms Parish in conjunction with this site has been used to pay for the URL registration for five years). Towards the end of 2011 we introduce Google Ads to the site to try to generate revenue to cover core costs. ContentThe content is submitted in three ways: Articles and books offered for publication by local people interested in building a resource of local information (see history index), contributions to the interactive forum. From 1997 to 2010 news stories were written to highlight issues. but in 2010 we moved that process to the forum letting local residents decide what was newsworthy. Articles and booksAll the books, features and other information reproduced on this site have been added after obtaining full agreement from the authors on the understanding that the material is not published elsewhere without their consent. DownloadingYou are free to download the content for your own personal non-commercial use, but you are not permitted to copy, adapt or change this content in any way for any other website or any other form of publication without obtaining permission. Forum contributionsAll those who register for the forum agree to certain conditions. The views expressed in the forum are the views of the contributors to the forum and are not necessarily the views of the Brookmans Park Newsletter. The teamThe site was set up by two local residents, David Brewer (who looks after the content side), and James Bentall, (who looks after the technical side). A dozen volunteer moderators help manage the site's forum and act as an editorial sounding board when issues arise.
